Harold Hitchings Burbank Professor of Political Economy, Emeritus, of Harvard University. Previous positions at Harvard include Associate Director of the East Asian Research Center (now Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies), Chairman of the Department of Economics, Director of the Harvard Institute for International Development, and Director of the Harvard Asia Center. Dwight Perkins has authored, coauthored or edited 24 books and over 100 articles on economic history and economic development of China and of other Asian and developing economies. He has served as a consultant/advisor to governments in Vietnam, Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and Papua New Guinea as well as to the US government, the Ford Foundation, and the World Bank.
